Editor's Notes

October 20, 2020:

A lot of the models from our previous list have seen upgrades, as is the case with the Fujitsu FI-7140 Color and the Epson DS-870. That Fujitsu model is impressive for a number of reasons, including its ability to scan continuously for documents of significant length, ranging up to 220 inches. It also has an effective skew reduction ability that will automatically straighten out images that are fed through its optical array at anything but a perfect angle.

Users looking for a more modern take on the scanner would do well to consider the Canon ImageFormula R50 or the Raven Pro, both of which boast large touchscreen interfaces. These can be a boon to productivity in an easily confused office, and make it simple to program regular tasks for added convenience. That Canon model offers some excellent features from a company renowned for it camera and imaging technology, but the Raven edged it out thanks to the size of its screen and its impressive 60-page-per-minute speed.

March 22, 2019:

This category proved to offer a somewhat surprising amount of variety, with good portable options like the Visioneer and Epson ES-50 offerings that users might be able to make a part of a mobile worksite. For the most part, though, desktop models seen to offer the best feature sets and the most robust duty cycles. The DS-780N from Epson combines just about everything you'd want to find in such a device, including a nice, big touchscreen for menu navigation. The features on their DS-530 are almost enough to make you forget how big and unruly it can be, but not so much that it could gain significant ground on our list.

4. Epson DS-870

5. HP Scanjet Pro N4000

6. Xerox XD-Combo

7. Brother Wireless Compact 1700W

8. Epson Workforce ES-50 Portable
