Editor's Notes
February 20, 2019:
When researching this topic, durability, functionality, stability, and deck style were all elements that I tried to balance as best I could in my search. For that reason, I included a mixture of both longboard and traditional skateboard models so that our options were well-rounded. For example, the Loaded Bhangra, Chubby Unicorn Blood Slayer, and Truncated Tesseract are all great choices for skilled riders who love the thrill of downhill speed racing, maneuvering around tight corners, and performing tricks. Several of the items are also equipped with a layer of cork for minimizing vibrations, which comes in particularly handy when riding over rough terrains. Even though the Santa Cruz Natas is a bit shorter than some of the other choices, its glow-in-the-dark surface and 7-ply maple construction make it a worthy contender. Since both novices and professionals are likely to practice tricks in skate parks, I added the Bamboo Nebula due to its narrow profile and ability to absorb shocks when performing on halfpipes and rails. Although its bottom logo was a little over the top and the white base shows dirt pretty easily, I still included the Enjoi Spectrum as a forgiving option for beginners, thanks to its stiff construction and snap-resistant design.
