This wiki has been updated 21 times since it was first published in February of 2019. A fresh coat of paint, a new lacquer or a beautiful stain will help transform your project-in-progress into a finished product, but you won’t get there without a quality sheet sander to prepare the material for that final step. These models will allow you to apply a nuanced finishing touch, and many include features like adjustable speeds, dust collection systems and heavy-duty clamps. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

March 20, 2019:

Of the three half-sheet sanders on the list, the Makita BO4900V struck the best balance between value, power and ease of use. Users indicate that it’s well-suited for heavy-duty projects, such as large cabinets and full doors, though it can also be gentle enough on a low speed for more detailed work. This led us to rank it atop the list. The Bosch OS50VC is also a remarkably effective, high-octane half-sheet model, we just aren’t sure that justifies its significantly higher price. If you’re on a budget, the DeWalt DWE6411K offers some solid bang for your buck, as it features a 3.2-amp motor that generates plenty of force, has a quality dust catcher, and includes a carrying bag. The Black+Decker BDEQS300 is a nice value as a quarter-sheet option, the main drawback being that the power button is situated in a way that it may interfere with changing sheets. Less experienced users will want to note this should they decide to go with this model.
