The 10 Best Shaving Oils
This wiki has been updated 24 times since it was first published in March of 2018. If shaving feels like torture to you, then it's probably because you're not prepping your face sufficiently. These oils soften your growth, reducing friction and ensuring scruff doesn't put up a fight, while also helping to soothe and moisturize your skin. Technically, you don't have to use one, but you may be shocked to learn that you don't have to cut yourself every time, either. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
April 15, 2020:
Here at wiki.ezvid we often favor all-natural products. In fact, except for American Crew Ultra Gliding, every other option on this list is comprised entirely of natural ingredients. For those not concerned about using a shave oil with chemicals, American Crew Ultra Gliding makes a good, low-cost option. The only ingredient we didn't like in it was BHT, which, according to official sources, is essentially harmless in the small amounts found in this oil. Also, since it is relatively thin, you don't have to worry about it clogging pores or razors.
If you are on the exact opposite side of the fence, and feel that even being all natural isn't enough, you will probably want to consider Taconic Shave Unscented and Seven Potions Pure Equilibrium. In addition to being free of chemical additives, these are both comprised only of organic ingredients. Taconic Shave Unscented also boasts antibiotic properties, while Seven Potions Pure Equilibrium is high in wrinkle-fighting trans-retinoic acid, so it may just help you stay looking younger for longer.
While many options often come in Sandalwood, which is regarded as a masculine fragrance, we like that Art of Shaving Lavender has taken a decidedly more botanical route. Most will find the scent pleasant and calming, and it might just make shaving an almost zen-like experience.
For those who are generally in a rush to get out the door in the morning, we recommend American Shaving Co. Original Scent. It is designed to absorb quickly into the skin and hair, so you can start shaving immediately after applying it. That being said, it also has some slow-absorbing ingredients for the man who likes to take their time grooming.
In the pursuit of making very educated recommendations, we did our best to consider every ingredient in the shave oils on this list. With that in mind, we simply couldn't give Shave Secret a very high ranking. While it gets rave reviews from most users and it is made of 100-percent natural ingredients, we weren't very pleased with the company's reluctance to prominently list everything it contains. Since it is a proprietary formula, they have chosen to keep it a secret, and instead just say it is a blend of multiple seed and nut base oils, steam distilled essential oils, pharmaceutical grade menthol, and vanilla tea oil. They do assure us it is free from peanut oil, though, so if you were worried about a potential allergic reaction, this should ease your mind.
