For this update, we removed the X-Tra 2-In-1 due to potential durability issues. We also removed the Plan Station WS3800 due to the fact that it didn’t quite fit into the category of workbench, and was more of a portable desk. We feel that a workbench should be able to support a substantial amount of weight, and the Plan Station WS3800 simply could not.
We added the Worx Sidekick, an ultra-compact model that would be a great choice for anyone tight on space but still needs a sturdy place to work. It’s also designed to be compatible with other Worx products, so if you already have a bench or sawhorse of that brand, you can easily attach the Worx Sidekick and create a larger unit.
We also added the Keter Compact, a similar model to the other Keter option on our list - the Keter Work Table - but with telescopic legs and a different style of bar clamp. Both of these would be good choices for anyone, it’s up to your personal preference which works better for you.
If you’re shopping for a portable workbench, chances are you might also benefit from a rolling tool tote. These make it easy to organize and transport your tools and equipment to and from the job site, and come in a variety of sizes and styles.
If you’re looking for something more permanent, this collection of adjustable height workbenches might be a better fit. You won’t be able to transport them around as easily as the options listed here, but they typically provide a much larger work surface, and their adjustable height makes them useful for a wider range of projects.

It's hard for us to tell you exactly which portable workbench will be best for you, as your needs greatly determine what you should look for in a model. If you need something that can support a lot of weight, look to the DeWalt Express DWST11556 and Keter Work Table, as each of these has a 1,000-pound capacity. If you need a long work surface, the 51-inch X-Tra 2-In-1 is king. Its 500-pound capacity isn't too bad either. Both the X-Tra 2-In-1 and Disston Omnitable feature telescoping legs, so you'll have some versatility in your working height, and two working surfaces of different materials.
The Kreg KWS1000 Mobile Project Center claimed our number one spot for its versatility. It can be set up like a saw horse, work table, or clamping station, and you can attach two side-by-side if needed. The Worx Pegasus offers many of the same features, but the Kreg beat it out in overall build quality. Many home DIYers will probably be satisfied with the Black & Decker WM125 Workmate or Powertec MT4006, since they are affordably priced, are lightweight for easy transport, and have durable bamboo decks, but they aren't designed to support very much weight.
