This wiki has been updated 33 times since it was first published in May of 2016. If you are on a daily medications regimen due to an illness or injury, but find it difficult to swallow the large horse pills you've been prescribed, take a look at our selection of pill splitters. These handy cutters can slice just about any tablet or vitamin into more manageable halves or quarters, and are also ideal for ensuring proper dosages are taken when weaning off certain drugs. August 31, 2020:
For most, the Pillcut Multiple remains a strong choice, not only because it can cut multiple pills at once, but also because its blade doesn't dull as quickly as the blade found on some, such as the Apex Ultra. The Pillcut model is one of the priciest choices out there, however, so for occasional use, it might be overkill. We've also kept the Equadose Cutter, even though it can be a bit frustrating to use for those who have arthritis or dexterity issues. Fortunately, the manufacturer has answered this with the Equadose V2 and its centering mechanism that makes it a cinch to use. This new version might be considered the better option of the two, although the original remains popular and useful for many.
We also opted to add one pair of scissors designed specifically for cutting pills, the Allex Scissors, and keep one option with a weekly pill holder, the Thassio Weekly Organizer Set. This Thassio model has a modest capacity, though, so if you take many medications and supplements, you might find it to be too small.
And finally, a word about safety. Even with a pill splitter, it's possible to unintentionally change your dose; you might split the pill unevenly, or lose some of the medication if the pill should crumble. When it comes to some medications, such a change could have serious consequences. You should only engage in splitting your medications and/or altering doses under the recommendation of your doctor or pharmacist, who can help you understand such risks.

While there isn't a lot of high-quality variety in the pill splitting market, we looked for reliable options that were proven not to reduce precious prescription medications to a useless powder.
The Pillcut Multiple is a top choice not just because of the time-saving aspect of splitting a large number of pills at once. The spring loaded bars center the pills without the user having to do any guesswork.
We had to remove the Medifacx Prorxdisc because while the idea of having multi-shaped cavities for various pill sizes is a good one, the reality is there are hundreds of pill shapes and sizes out there that are always changing.

30 Day Pill Cutter Make short work of an entire month's worth of pills with the 30 Day Pill Cutter, which has 15 slots for cutting 15 tablets all at once. To accomplish this, it uses long, sharp, stainless steel blades, but don't worry — there's a shield to ensure that you don't cut yourself. multiplepillcutter.com
