The 10 Best Paint Edgers
This wiki has been updated 27 times since it was first published in March of 2018. While the sheer square footage of your walls may seem like the most daunting part of any DIY painting job, the devil is in the details. Rollers can make quick work of all that empty space in the middle, but when it comes to getting clean lines along your baseboards or ceiling, you're going to need specialized tools. Something from our selection of paint edgers should do the trick. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
December 08, 2020:
For this update, we replaced the Shur-Line Premium with a newer model, the Shur-Line 2006561, which is a similar product, but also includes two pad refills. We also removed the HomeRight Quick and Easy and Yukaki Best due to availability issues.
We added several unique additions, including the Perfect Paint Edger. This is a relatively new product to the market, but users are pleased with its design and quality, and it seems to be an effective edger. The inventor also has a website with numerous instructional videos, which should be a major help to someone new to painting or edging. The Richard 80833 is another interesting option that we added. This brush is designed with dense, angled bristles to allow for easy edgework, and can even be attached to an extension pole for cutting into high moldings and ceilings.
When shopping for paint edgers, in particular, keep in mind that online reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. Our research indicates that a large portion of negative reviews and complaints are due to user error, so keep in mind that these tools will have a bit of a learning curve you'll need to deal with. Even the most effective options will need some time to get used to.
For large, non-edging projects, you might also want to consider a paint roller kit. These typically include multiple rollers and everything else you'll need to tackle entire rooms. Or, if you really want to boost your efficiency, one of these paint sprayers could be what you're looking for.
July 06, 2019:
If you're planning on painting a room in your home — or even an area on the outside of your home — a solid edger is a must-have. After putting in all that hard work, the last thing you want to deal with is imperfect corners or trim. These tools are crafted for making even lines, so your paint job doesn't end up looking sloppy. Many of the items featured here have ergonomic handles, replaceable pads, extension pole compatibility, and more, so you can get your project done efficiently, and without sacrificing the quality of the finished product.
The Geniuskids 5-Piece Kit and Padco 2200 have been removed due to availability concerns. By contrast, the Shur-Line Applicator, Yukaki Best, Yukaki Pad Set, Accubrush MX Jumbo Kit, and Wagner Spraytech are all brand-new additions to the list. Several of the newbies contain multiple tools for addressing a range of painting challenges, while others feature highly specialized designs that are intended to make edging a less frustrating task.
