Editor's Notes

June 16, 2020:

If you’re looking for an area rug that’s sure to have a touch of elegance and sophistication, you can’t go wrong with one of these traditional oriental rugs. In today’s update, we added in the Safavieh Antiquities, which is from a company that’s been around for more than a century and sells its home furnishings all over the world. It evokes an Old World style and is available in soft palettes that complement most decor. What makes this one stand apart from many others is its hand-spun wool composition, as opposed to cheaper polypropylene and other synthetic materials that make up many others. In addition, unlike many others, it’s tufted by hand, rather than made using an automated machine. We also added another popular piece from the same manufacturer, the Safavieh Adirondack. It boasts an intriguing pattern composed of a hexagonal center surrounded by ornate floral outlines. You’re sure to find one to match your room, since it comes in muted shades like ivory as well as bold ones like rich yellow and deep red. Its half-inch pile height makes it a good choice for rooms and hallways that see high traffic. It resists shedding and fits beneath furniture like couches and coffee tables easily.

The Home Dynamix Royalty features a traditional medallion design in contrasting colors, and intricate borders surround this focal point. This one is made of a low-maintenance, synthetic material that stands up to frequent vacuuming and is also easy to spot clean, when necessary. For a safe, fire-resistant choice that goes well next to a hearth, look to the Minuteman International Rectangular. It’s made of soft virgin wool and meets federal requirements for surface flammability of small carpets. Likewise, the Minuteman International Hearth meets the same requirements, and this one’s half-round shape makes it well suited for placement next to the hearth or a doorway to make it look complete. In this update, we removed the Universal Rugs Jayden, which is rather thin and the colors of which don’t match the pictures well. The same can be said of the Kingdom Traditional, which we also removed, which users also report is difficult to lay flat.
