December 31, 2020:
Recent months have seen the release of some truly next-generation displays. Specifically, the Asus ProArt PA27UCX-K and its close 32-inch relative are two of the first Mini LED displays on the market, and they both offer ultra-wide color gamuts and extensive connectivity that should satisfy the most demanding professionals. Of course, pros will also recognize the Eizo ColorEdge CS2740 and Eizo ColorEdge GG319X due to Eizo's dedication to the commercial field.
All of those are very costly, though. In terms of bang for the buck, it's tough to beat the Acer ConceptD CM3, which delivers image quality and consistency that you would not expect from something so affordable. The Asus PA32UC is in between the Acer and the super-high-end options, and also provides local dimming. If your budget's more restricted, the Dell S2721QS or even the low-priced Asis ProArt PA278QV are worth a look.

2018 hasn't seen a ton of advancement in these high-end monitors. We've had access to broad DCI-P3 and Adobe color gamuts for a few years, and some of the currently most popular models hail from over a year ago. Nonetheless, there are plenty of new and great solutions like Dell's 8K(!) monitor, the first of its kind. The Eizo ColorEdge GG319X is a beast for big studios, and it's hard to go wrong with most of the BenQ production monitors.
