This wiki has been updated 27 times since it was first published in December of 2018. Just because your laptop has an excellent screen, that doesn't mean you can't sometimes use an additional display for more complex workflows. The monitors for MacBook Pros on our list offer plenty of size and resolution, as well as great color and contrast for working professionals. They also all feature USB Type-C connectivity, so Apple users with the latest models can still connect. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

December 29, 2020:

For starters, we decided to omit all Dell monitors from our ranking due to inconsistent compatibility, as well as Dell's refusal to fix the issues or help troubled Apple users with their MacBook-specific problem. Should the issue get some worthwhile attention from Dell, we will be happy to include some of their generally great monitors.

That said, we wanted to include some with reliable USB-C connectivity, and the LG UK850, and BenQ EX2780Q all have that. The LG 34BK95U and LG Ultrafine 5K do as well, as they were developed specifically for use with Apple devices, but even though the Asus ProArt PA278QV and LG UN650 are restricted to traditional inputs, reports indicate that they both work just fine with MacBooks.

December 31, 2018:

Of course, it was important that every option on the list had a USB-C connection, since that's all that comes on the latest Macbook Pros. It's no surprise that our selection is populated by the likes of Samsung, Asus, and Dell, as these are the standard bearers in the industry. The 27-inch BenQ is probably the only model from a brand that is a little less battle-tested, but they've been making decent USB-connected monitors for a while now.

Special Honors

Apple Pro Display XDR It costs an incredible amount, but it also claims to pack some of the most advanced display technology available to date. If you want the best, it's the way to go, but despite its high cost, it doesn't even come with a stand. Nonetheless, it's the most streamlined option our there for use with Apple devices. apple.com
