This wiki has been updated 36 times since it was first published in October of 2015. We're not saying that vinyl produces better sound quality than digital, but it just feels better. You know? So if you have, or are starting, a record collection, keep it protected in one of these LP cases. We wanted to accommodate traveling DJs as well as people who just listen to tunes at home, so we've included models ideally suited to storage, transportation, and both. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

August 03, 2019:

When deciding on an LP case, it generally comes down to four features: capacity, sturdiness, portability, and design. The importance you place on each of these will help dictate which option is best for you. For example someone who simply needs to keep their LPs organized on a shelf and protected from dust might prefer something that sacrifices on sturdiness in favor of an attractive design, such as the Tunes-tote. On the other hand, traveling DJs will want something that has wheels or is easily carriable, and can withstand the inevitable bumps and bruises of the road, like the Harmony HCLPHWE.

Of course, it isn't all about absolutes. For example, the Magma Riot Trolley MGA44200 is easily transported, but doesn't offer records the best protection, since it is soft-sided. That being said, it is a good choice for a DJ who travels to their various gigs by car and doesn't ever plan on flying with their records.

Sometimes we can get the best of a couple different aspects too, such as in the Crosley CR401, which offers an attractive design in a sturdy case that offers a high level of protection. If anything, its downside would be the small 30-record capacity. That doesn't compare to the paltry eight-record capacity of the Hudson Hi-Fi Binder, though. As you might guess however, this case is very convenient when carrying a few records to a friends house.

If you have a large collection and portability is less of a concern than the protection a case offers your albums, then you won't go wrong with the Odyssey CLP200P or EasyGo Products Classic Acts RSC-M, which have a 200- and 150-record capacity, respectively.

Whichever case you choose, make sure you have a decent cartridge that suits your specific uses, whether that be DJing or simply listening to your favorite songs at home. The right cartridge is another factor that plays a role in keeping your LPs in good shape for years to come.
