Editor's Notes

March 25, 2020:

Trumpets are not cheap, even if you buy used, so keeping your horn protected when you are not using it is essential to its upkeep. If you want your horn to last for many years, having a protective bag or case is necessary. Deciding between a soft bag or a hard case depends on a few factors. The benefits of a soft bag include a more stream-lined design, which can save on space. Soft cases are padded to protect the horn, and many, such as the Protec Rectangular PB301, include a hard, inner shell for even more protection. The shoulder straps let you throw the bag over your shoulder for easy transport, even if you have other things in your hands.

Hard cases, like the Gator GC-Trumpet, provide the most ample protection because the horns are shielded from all sides at all times. However, these stiff cases do not bend, and they can be more difficult to store. They are also less comfortable to carry and usually do not have a shoulder strap to ease your load. An important feature you should look for, whether using a hard or soft case, is additional storage for accessories and music. If you are in the market for a standard trumpet or a student trumpet, our lists can help you find the best one to fit your needs.
