Editor's Notes

October 22, 2020:

In this update, two recently released sets come on board, one of which was inspired by “Minecraft Dungeons”, a video game for PS4, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The Redstone Battle lets kids recreate exciting adventures from the game using the giant monsters and heroes Hex, Hedwig, Hal, and Valorie. Included are a variety of swords and other weapons, as well as a crafting table with a torch and a map. A pink piggy bank figurine holds a gold treasure chest filled with an artifact and emeralds. Also joining the list is The Crafting Box 3.0, a 564-piece set that brings you the characters Steve and Alex, and all the bricks needed to create a castle and a farm. The pieces can be rearranged for alternative creations, instructions for which are available online. Also included are a pig and a creeper, and a TNT launcher to add to your adventures. This newer set replaces The Crafting Box 2.0, a somewhat similar set that was released in 2017. Also making its departure today is the now-discontinued Mountain Cave.

For an action-packed set you can’t go wrong with, check out The Creeper Mine, which offers three exciting explosive functions that let you blast away rubble and bedrock in your search for gems. Once you’ve found the treasure, just place it on the lever in the giant green statue to send it down to the treasure chest. The Nether Railway features a bright red and orange underworld, and you can send Steve and the zombie pigman on the cart that rolls past jumping lava blocks. To create an icy adventure, look to the Polar Igloo, in which Alex can fight off the skeleton with a working arrow dispenser. When things have quieted down, he can care for the polar bear and its baby and rest in the shelter inside the igloo. More adventures can be found with the Mushroom Island, a representation of the strange and mysterious land with cow-like creatures and creepers. You can explore the land, or find your way out of it, using the compass, pickaxe, and boat.

These Lego Minecraft sets each are a great way to enjoy your favorite game without even having to boot up your computer, Xbox, or PS4 console. Each comes with exciting, unique features that will help you bring the game to life as you recreate scenes and invent new stories of your own.

Joining the list today is The Creeper Mine, one of the newer offerings in this line. If you like the sets with exploding functions, this is a great option for you – as it provides three of them, which you can use to blast away bedrock and anything else in your way. Once you’ve mined for gold, you can store your treasure in the included chest by pushing on a lever, which sends it down through the giant Creeper statue. Also included are a working rail track with a minecart, as well as a shelter that has a bed, anvil, oven, and a vegetable patch. With this kit, you’ll get Steve, a blacksmith, and husk minifigures, plus Creeper, cow, and bat figures.

Making its departure from our selection is the Nether Fight. While it comes with a nice assortment of minifigs and other characters, it’s a relatively small set to command a price so high.
