This wiki has been updated 31 times since it was first published in March of 2017. You can't stop your children from taking an interest in rock climbing, a potentially dangerous activity, but you can protect them by getting them a reliable kids' harness. When your little ones are high up on a wall or rock face, you and they are going to want something that offers a secure fit, is made from strong materials and will be comfortable, like these. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
March 24, 2019:
Climbing harnesses for kids come in at least two variations -- there are the full-body models that offer support for both the waist and torso of the wearer, and half-body models that are essentially the same as adult harnesses, only pint-sized. The former are best for top-heavy toddlers and small children who might easily slip out of the latter; the latter, for bigger kids who may not require the extra security provided by the former. Our list includes the top models from both categories: the Edelrid Fraggle II and Petzl Ouistiti are both great for cradling tiny adventurers on the crag, while the Black Diamond Momentum and Wild Country Spark are solid options for more mature climbers. Overall, we thought the Petzl Macchu best for kids who want a harness that's every bit as functional as their adult counterparts'.
