The 10 Best Japanese Hand Saws
This wiki has been updated 25 times since it was first published in January of 2019. In addition to the way they look, a Japanese handsaw, or nokogiri, differs from their Western counterparts in how you use them. Rather than cutting on the pushing action, these cut on the pull, which makes for more efficient work. They are also noticeably thinner and lighter, so they are easier to maneuver and create a slim kerf. We've included both single and double-sided models. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
February 04, 2019:
Japanese pull saws are intended for precision work where any mis-cut could cause problems when the finished piece comes together. Because of this, the majority of the models we included have a very thin blade. We also thought it best to mostly select models that adhere to the traditional design and manufacturing process of these items, though there are a few exclusions on our list, such as the Tajima MG-300FB Magnum.
