Editor's Notes
February 15, 2019:
Investigated mattocks of all types as well as similar tools, since it's hard to have too many options when it comes to gardening. The go-to for most users is the popular Fiskars IsoCore, which is durable but not uncomfortable, a combination that's not small feat to create. Alternatives that come close are the Truper Pick-Mattock and the Tabor Tools J56, although it should be noted that the latter ships in two pieces, which some users do not like. For tasks requiring something smaller, we added The Ames Companies Mini Dig and the V&B Manufacturing Groundbreakers Mini. The Groundbreakers model has a loose head, but this is actually a common enough practice when it comes to tools of this type, so it shouldn't be seen as shoddy workmanship.
