Editor's Notes

July 09, 2021:

We're happy to report that most of our previous recommendations still hold as some of the best on the market. We did eliminate one choice that's mostly for monitors and not computer cases. We also elevated the Vivo Cart-PC01 to the number 2 spot because of its low price, high dependability, and simple configuration. Otherwise, the 3M CS200 and Vivo PC01D are still extremely interesting when paired with the right desk because they're able to free up extra floor space.

One of the key things to be aware of when buying a CPU stand is its dimensions. Many people end up having to return their stands upon discovering it’s the wrong size for their setup, especially for the Vivo Cart-PC01. Even if you buy an adjustable model, measure your case to make sure it will be the right fit. No matter what stand you go with, your tower may lean to one side when first assembling your unit, so be aware that you may have to tighten or loosen a few nuts and bolts to make it level.

Most options we've listed have plastic caster wheels, which unfortunately do not roll well on some carpet. If the wheels become locked up you may have to drag the whole stand, which proves inconvenient and possibly dangerous for your computer if it falls over in the process. If you’re looking to improve your stands mobility or prevent it from scratching your floor, you can take a look at our articles on carpet (not carpeted) chair mats and hard floor chair mats respectively. The Monoprice Multimedia is good for carpeted areas if you simply aim to get your case off of the floor since it won't require a mat to function well, but be aware that there are no walls. Be sure to place it in a safe location, like the corner of your room, so at least one side of your precious build is protected.

The Vivo PC01D and 3M CS200 have been shown to effectively hold heavy cases. If you are committed to one location, these desk mounted stands are a great way to make it easier to connect accessories, especially if you're dealing with shorter cables. Both allow you to slide your computer out like a drawer, and have 360 mobility for easily accessing every side of your tower.
