This wiki has been updated 19 times since it was first published in October of 2018. It's cold and rainy, and you're exhausted. You get in your car, turn the key, and ... nothing happens. At this point, you could either suffer alone while you wait for the tow truck to arrive, or you could break out one of these 24-volt jump starters and crank your engine back to life. Many also have other bells and whistles, such as 12-volt DC outlets and USB ports to charge your phone. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

March 11, 2021:

Considering how limited this list was to begin with, we lost quite a few options along the way, during this round of updates. By the time we were done, the Noco Genius Boost Max, Cal-Van Tools Boost Pro and Jegs Performance Products 81952 were all removed due to availability issues.

We added the Mr CarTool EM315 to our rankings, as we liked the way its bright-yellow housing was equipped with two convenient grips: a flexible D-handle on top, and a telescoping handle that collapses underneath the unit where it’s out of the way. Its digital displays and cold-weather rating were also well-appreciated touches.

We then went on to add the Supa SP-2400, but this was done with some hesitation, as this model’s quality claims were yet to be substantiated by many user reviews, either positive or negative. However, considering how slim the pickings were in this space, and appreciating the compact design that makes the SP-2400 a viable addition to many roadside-emergency kits, we still thought it was worth including at the bottom of our list. We’ll pay close attention to new feedback on this option during our next round of updates, to determine whether it deserves to maintain its position on our list.

If you’re looking for a model that’s meant more for maintenance and less for in-a-rush boosting, then you might be interested in checking out our list 24-volt battery chargers, but it should also be noted that some models – including our new addition the Mr CarTool EM315 – are capable of doing both.

November 30, 2018:

Our top picks were chosen for their ability to power up a wide variety of vehicles, from regular cars to farm equipment. Safety features also factored in prominently, given that many users may have little experience with using these tools.
