April 02, 2021:
You might notice a stark lack of a couple well-known models here. It doesn't take a deep dive to find some alarming information about some of the most expensive controllers, particularly everything from Razer, as well as the supposedly premium Microsoft Elite Series 2. Sure, some users report being happy with their purchase, but a shocking number are entirely dissatisfied with the tactile feedback, ergonomics, and durability of models with labels like "Ultimate" and "V2" - model names that would, ostensibly, illustrate high quality.
So, while we cannot in good conscience recommend most ultra-expensive options, that's okay - there are plenty of worthwhile options available, many officially licensed by Microsoft. The OG Xbox Wireless Controller is, of course, the best bet for the average gamer, but more dedicated players will appreciate the advanced features of options like the PowerA Spectra Enhanced and PowerA Fusion Pro, although neither of those offers wireless functionality.
On the other hand, there's a great lineup of specialty controllers designed for specific game genres. For fighting games, the Hori Fighting Commander Octa is the top handheld choice, and the Mayflash F300 a streamlined and high-quality tabletop or laptop model. The Thrustmaster TS-XW Racer is the best choice for hardcore racing simulators, and while it is expensive, cheap Xbox steering wheels generally, in the past, perform pretty poorly. And if flying is your thing, there is no better choice than the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas One.

In today's competitive and intensive online gaming world, consumers are looking for every advantage in their respective genre of choice. Having a dedicated controller provides that edge. Most consumers are looking for devices that provide seamless control, rapid response, and grip comfort. Ideally, these controllers aren't affected by the deadzone, an unresponsive section of the analog stick. This list highlights a healthy variety of Xbox One controllers that meets those needs across the board.
For instance, some of the picks exist on opposite ends of the pricing scale. The Hori Fighting Commander and the PowerA Spectra are ideal selections for consumers lacking wiggle room in their bank accounts. Their basic interfaces aren't much of a hindrance when playing titles involving limited, slow-twitch movement. Role playing games and any low action titles are best suited for these modest controllers.
On the pricier side, the Razer Atrox Arcade Stick is a bulky luxury controller that pairs perfectly with fighting games or titles involving rapid-movement and complex button combinations. It's also a welcome addition to any retro gaming collection.
A must-have for dedicated fans of the racing genre, the Thrustmaster TX RW Leather Edition wheel is designed with an immersive vibration interface that responds in real-time to collisions, gear-shifts, and sharp turns.
