Editor's Notes

September 01, 2020:

For this update we kept many of our high quality selections from the previous years, but we did decide to add the Han-MM Convertible to our selections.

A completely wooden chair like the Excellante Walnut won't win marks for its comfort level or bells and whistles, so parents interested in a well-padded seat that is also multi-functional may want to compromise with some plastic parts like the Han-MM, that still has the warm character of natural beech-wood legs.

The Abiie Beyond tops our list of wooden chairs because it provides an all-wood look plus nice back and seat padding. While there is a removable dishwasher-safe plastic cover for the tray, use of this is optional as the wooden tray itself is made without any toxic finishes and safe for children to eat from as well.

August 01, 2019:

The average buyer of a wooden high chair is most likely looking for a piece that fits in with their home's style, but any high chair also needs to be functional and safe.

The Stokke Trip Trapp takes the top spot for coming in a wide range of colors and wood finishes, and the basic base is all wood. While baby harness and tray are pricey extras, this chair attractive and versatile enough that many parents will probably keep it in their homes as a piece of useful furniture when their children are older.

The Abiie Beyond is also very functional and the pad can be removed as the baby grows so that it looks less like a high chair, but it is not offered in as many color options.

We removed the Badger Basket Embassy from this list because too many parents found the harness straps to be too loose and difficult to buckle.
