Editor's Notes
January 06, 2021:
During this update, we took the time focus on removing as many of the somewhat generic brands as possible and replacing them with models from reputable names. This allowed us to include the JBL JR 300BT, which offer everything you expect from the company, including impressive audio quality, stable connectivity, and comfortable build. We also added two new model from Puro Sound Labs, the Puro Sound Labs JuniorJams and Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiets. The former take the place of the BT2200, which we had previously recommended, as they have more effective noise cancellation, a better battery life, and, perhaps best of all in a parent's mind, are more affordably priced. The PuroQuiets, while somewhat expensive, are one of the only kid's models that feature active noise cancellation.

An inexpensive electronics category like this is always going to be rife with Chinese-manufactured goods, many of which will be the same products under different names. That doesn't mean they're interior by any means, but it does make it hard to differentiate among some offerings. The Handal model on our last ranking, for example, was a fine product, but it suffered from availability issues that its replacement, the Eco Duzlly, does not. Close inspection reveals that these are, indeed, identical headphones, but they're still worth their spot.
Taking the top slots are cans from somewhat more recognizable brands, with the Untangled Pros by LilGadgets earning their place thanks to their comfort, excellent battery life, and color options.
Regardless of brand, one of the most important features to scrutinize is a pair's volume limiting capabilities. Even more important than size, this is the feature that matters most to kids and parents alike, as it will help protect their developing ears from suffering damage from high decibels. This is why you won't see things like Beats and other popular options on this ranking.
