This wiki has been updated 21 times since it was first published in January of 2019. An ultrasonic clothes washer might sound like something from the future, but the underlying technology is well established and has been in use for decades, though it's more popular for cleaning rigid items, like tools and optical gear. Nevertheless, these little gadgets can help keep your garments fresh when a standard washer isn't available. Just note that they aren't made for heavy-duty jobs. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

December 24, 2020:

Using high-frequency pressure waves to agitate the liquid, an ultrasonic washer is an effective way to remove contaminants from a large range of items, including clothes. While a full-sized washing machine hasn't been developed yet, these portable options are great for taking on holiday or for delicate items that would otherwise need to be washed by hand.

In this update, we included some larger models that can accommodate up to four kilograms of laundry. The Sophie McCarthy Foldable has an innovative design that allows it to collapse when not in use. It can hold about one kilo of clothes and has a 15-minute timer located on the base. The Beheso Mini is a three-inch cube that is placed directly in the water and will clean up to four kilos.

For smaller applications, such as underwear or single items of clothing, as well as things like fruit, vegetables, and jewelry, the YellowTT Portable, the Digitblue Touch, and the FTVogue Mini are all compact options that can easily slip into a travel bag. The latter also includes a USB cable, giving it versatility in powering options.

Investigated options for keeping clothes fresh when a standard washing machine is not available. Added the stain-fighting Sharp Wave Washer as a useful option even though it doesn't clean an entire garment at one time; for those who find rubbing and scrubbing clothes difficult, it could be a big help. Also added the Gemitto Turbine for busy people and the Cirsum Cleaner for those who worry about grime and dirt on a variety of surfaces.
