The 10 Best Tricycle Strollers

This wiki has been updated 24 times since it was first published in March of 2018. Toddlers are at that finicky age when they begin to demand independence, but they haven't a clue what to do with it. If you want to get your little one a set of wheels, but aren't quite ready to give up control, tricycle strollers offer the both of best worlds. For safety’s sake, always follow the manufacturer’s stated age requirements and usage guidelines for any of these trikes. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

November 28, 2020:

Today we replaced the SmarTrike Smartfold 600 with an updated model, the SmarTrike STR5. This well-designed choice is easy to modify as your child grows older. It starts out as a stroller, after which you can allow your child to learn to steer, and then the pedals can be made functional. A quick click lets you set who controls the trike, and you can alternate between parent and child control, as you wish. It’s well suited for travel, as it folds up easily and compactly. It comes with instructions for having the visor sent to you embroidered with an image and the name of your choice. We also added in the deluxe Bentley BN1O, which boasts elegant wheels that replicate those on the manufacturer’s Continental GT vehicle. They’ve got bumpers that help protect them from dust and dirt, as well as rubber tires that are filled with air. It comes complete with a chrome Bentley logo on the metal frame, and the same color and finish as select Continental cars. It transforms easily from a stroller to a tricycle, so you can get years of use out of it. It replaces the Vilano 3 in 1 on our list, which is unavailable at this time.

We’re still partial to the Radio Flyer Deluxe, which is made for kids aged two through five. They will enjoy being able to take their toys along in the covered storage bin, and ringing the chrome bell as they cruise around the block. For another choice from the same manufacturer that can accommodate younger kids, look to the Radio Flyer Ultimate 4-in-1, which offers a high-backed seat and a three-point harness to help keep your tot securely in place. For a somewhat similar model, but with air-filled tires, check out the Radio Flyer Ultimate All-Terrain, which is suitable for most types of ground and flooring. As mentioned in our last update, always follow the age requirements for any of these stroller trikes and supervise children closely at all times.

June 05, 2019:

The Radio Flyer Ultimate 4-in-1 joins the selection as a stroller trike that’s great for infants (starting at age 9 months), all the way up to toddlers and preschoolers who can ride it independently. The parent push bar comes with a convenient pouch for your cell phone and other necessities. It features a seat pad that’s easily removable for when your child is ready to ride on his or her own. This sturdy model features a steel frame, footrest, and safety tray with a cupholder.

Maintaining a high spot on the list is the Radio Flyer Deluxe, which is suitable for kids ages two to five. It has a roomy back compartment for toys or other gear, as well as a seat that adjusts as your child grows. It has a durable metal push bar with padded handles, which is easy to remove permanently once he or she is able to ride alone. Also retaining a top spot is the Joovy Tricycoo, which accommodates younger children, starting at 10 months of age, and can hold them until they reach 44 pounds. It comes in either pink or blue, and its shoulder and seat pads are conveniently removable and washable.

Also joining the list are the Radio Flyer Ultimate All-Terrain, which features wide, air-filled tires that work great anywhere from the mall to all sorts of outdoor places; and the versatile Besrey BR-C716S, which converts into seven different modes as your little one grows. Leaving the list, due to issues with availability, are the Besrey Lightweight and Radio Flyer Ez Fold.

Whichever model you ultimately choose, for safety's sake, be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines regarding minimum and maximum age requirements, as well as the directions regarding assembly and use.
