The 10 Best Travel Bags

This wiki has been updated 24 times since it was first published in March of 2018. A travel bag needs features that are ready for whatever your sojourns may throw at it, like tough materials that can stand being overstuffed with souvenirs and tossed around by TSA, thoughtful compartments to help you stay organized, and comfortable carrying options so you don't feel weighed down after a long day. We selected models to meet those requirements in a variety of styles and sizes. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

May 13, 2020:

We made our selection of items with serious travelers in mind, meaning we only chose bags that will stand the test of time and many adventures, and which are smartly designed with the organizational needs of on-the-go consumers in mind.

When it comes to durable materials, the Plambag Canvas Duffle and the Ibagbar Rucksack both caught our attention, due to their high-density canvas construction. We also appreciated the Perry Ellis 22" for its protective feet that keep the base safe from wear and tear, and it didn't hurt that this option can hold two basketballs, making it a great gym bag, too. The Jadyn B 22-Inch Women's Weekender Duffel lost its place because its materials aren't very durable.

The ability to hold a good deal of belongings was a priority, so we like the generous storage capacity of the Bluboon Overnight 831 and the Eddie Bauer Bygone 45L. On that note, we removed the Baggallini Weekender Tote as it can't accommodate much stuff.

As for models that help travelers keep their items tidy, the Hook & Albert Twill Gen. 2 stood out because of its garment holder, while we eliminated the EverVanz Oversized Duffel because it lacked organizational compartments for major items.

Since carrying an empty bag can be a nuisance, we appreciated that the Osprey Packs UL Stuff Duffel and the Samsonite Tote Sling both pack down into about the size of a fist when empty.

In addition to two large outer and one large inner zippered pocket, it also has pen and card slots so those important items don't get lost at the bottom of the bag. It also features a comfortable, removable shoulder strap and self-repairing zippers, and boasts a lifetime guarantee. hammacher.com
