This wiki has been updated 19 times since it was first published in July of 2019. If you live in a place where the roads often get bogged down in mud or snow, or if you just like living on the wild side when you drive, having a solid tow hook or two attached to your vehicle is a smart idea. These options are sturdy enough to use to get you out of a jam, rip up a tree stump, or pull a disabled car, and many of them make attractive additions to your ride to boot. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

July 31, 2019:

There are a variety of styles on this list, including hooks, shackles, and anchors. One isn't necessarily better than another, as each one's suitability depends on the needs of the job at hand, as well as your other existing equipment. Hooks are slightly more versatile, as if you go with a shackle or anchor, you'll need straps or chains with hooks on them (you'll still need to use straps even if you have hooks, of course).

If you decide to go with a hook, the Curt 45500 may be all you ever need. Simple, stout, and affordable, it can fit in most receiver tubes, and it's capable of handling most tow jobs. You can find fancier options, but there's little reason to try.

If you insist on a little more flash, however, the Liberrway Shackles is a smart choice. The colorful design brightens up your truck's exterior, and the rubber casing can help prevent burned hands when you have to tow something in the middle of a heat wave.

Special Honors

Mopar Hook Kit You get everything you need in this kit, including a bracket to ensure that the installation is as flush and attractive as possible. The black finish is sleek and shiny enough that you may not want to damage it with a chain. moparpartsaz.com

Ami 8803B Blue Billet This model is a giant O-ring that opens up to allow you to sneak a hook or chain through. Its aluminum construction should be plenty stout enough for your needs, and it's available in a wide range of colors to dress up your Jeep. creativemotoring.com
