The most important factor to take into consideration when choosing a standing globe is how much you actually want to use it as a globe. If your primary use is going to be referencing and exploring countries and geographic locations, then you’re going to want to be able to rotate and spin it in all directions. Models like the Treasury 12 and Waypoint Geographic can spin, and flip upside down, making it easy to find places closer to the south pole. These models also prioritize accuracy, making them the preferred style for educational purposes.
Flip-top options like the Design Toscano and Vidar Parchment are less interactive, but have the added functionality of acting as a bar-cart for your wine or liquor bottles. You won’t be able to turn these upside-down, and because of their antique-style design, typically use outdated maps.
If you're in the market for a product that is more focused on actively learning geography, one of these talking globes might be what you're looking for. Or, if you're short on space, one of these wall maps might be more convenient.
