The 10 Best Spring Scales
This wiki has been updated 18 times since it was first published in June of 2019. You probably thought you left them behind in your high school science class, but spring scales can still be extremely useful in many situations. They're incredibly convenient for weighing fish or game, measuring out feed for livestock, weighing luggage so you can avoid excess baggage fees, and more. These options are all well-made, inexpensive, and reliable. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
June 20, 2019:
The Modern Step Crane earned our top spot due to its large capacity, clear and easy-to-use display, and durable construction. That said, it's likely going to be overkill for many uses (unless you catch really big fish). We believe the Rapala Tube is nearly as good, and it should be your go-to for smaller applications.
If you only plan to measure fish with your scale, the Booms Fishing TS1 is difficult to beat. Its shape makes it possible to use it one-handed, and it's small enough to stash in your tackle box. It's a somewhat specialized tool, though, which is why we couldn't rank it higher.
The Sciencent Economy pack is perfect for teachers, as it's both inexpensive and easy for students to use. The scales are not intended to measure heavy objects, though, which limits their usefulness outside the classroom.
