The 9 Best Spare Tire Mounts For Trailers

This wiki has been updated 17 times since it was first published in January of 2019. Just as you do for your vehicle, you should also keep a spare tire on hand for your trailer any time you are towing it. If you are like most people, you'd rather not toss it in your truck bed or the back of your SUV, so that's where these mounts come in handy. They attach quickly to your trailer's frame and keep that extra wheel close, but conveniently out of the way when not needed. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

March 09, 2021:

While we did have to dig around a bit to source a couple of our choices from alternate vendors, in the end most of our previous picks managed to survive the test of time and made it through this round of updates without being replaced. Our only two new omissions were the Red Hound Auto and Tow Tuff TTF-08HD, which were both removed due to availability issues.

Believing that the last editor for this list did a good job of putting together a nice mix of options, we didn’t see any major need to make many new additions, but we did end up adding the Hydraker KTGG0013 to our list, which is an affordably priced unit with a design similar to the Extreme Max 3005.3732. We thought it was worth including at the bottom of our list, for the benefit of users with enclosed trailers that are equipped with the e-track or x-track rails that it's compatible with.

Looking for more ways to accessorize your trailer? We also maintain a list of trailer fenders, and to protect your investment we keep up on our rankings for trailer hitch locks.

February 01, 2019:

Spare tire mounts for your trailer are intended to do one thing, keep your wheel securely in place when not needed, so this was our foremost priority when selecting models. Anything that was potentially not strong enough to do that was immediately discounted. After that we wanted to include items that offered extra convenience, like the capability to be locked to prevent tire theft or the versatility to allow for horizontal and vertical mounting.

Curt Manufacturing 31006 If what you're actually looking for isn't so much a spare-tire mount for your trailer, but rather a spare-tire mount in lieu of a trailer, consider an option like this that, with a 24-inch height, should be able to accommodate most large-diameter truck tires. It fits into two-inch hitch receivers, boasts a powder-coated steel construction and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. curtmfg.com
