The 5 Best Solar Pool Ionizers
This wiki has been updated 20 times since it was first published in March of 2019. Keeping your pool clean can be tricky and expensive. These ionizers use copper and other minerals to help keep algae from overtaking the water, and can defray some of your costs by reducing the amount spent on chlorine and similar chemicals. Even better, they're solar-powered, so don't worry about running up utility bills or harming the environment in the process. Editor's Notes
May 31, 2019:
The Remington Sun Shock is our top choice because it's also excellent in non-pool bodies of water. If you have a koi pond or something similar in your backyard, you should give it a look, as it can keep away a variety of unwanted flora and fauna, not just the microscopic kind. That said, it performs wonderfully in pools as well.
The DR Global is high on our list because a single unit can handle bigger pools, giving you excellent bang for your buck. We also liked that it comes with a spare copper rod, thereby extending its lifespan.
We wanted to like the Marrick Enterprises SolarChlor a lot more than we did — the idea certainly shows promise. However, the chlorine dispenser isn't terribly reliable, so you're paying for half of a 2-in-1 machine, basically. The ionizer is effective, but you'll likely find better value buying a dedicated model.
