This wiki has been updated 27 times since it was first published in March of 2017. Finding the right hardware for sliding glass doors can be tricky. Not only do you have to meet the physical requirements of size and placement, but you also have to consider the aesthetics of your residence or business. We've assembled a list of handles that includes keyed and non-keyed options in a variety of shapes, styles, and colors, so there's one to suit most entrances. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

October 03, 2020:

When it comes to quality you can count on, we still think options from Prime-Line, Slide-Co, and Rockwell fit the bill, although currently, most models do not include any type of lock, mortise or otherwise. Fortunately, however, most do come with the required hardware, so as long as you have a decent tool kit, you should be able to get everything installed in a flash. A notable exception is the Prime-Line Products C 1033, which has both hardware and a lock, but some find that this is on the flimsy side. In other words, it does the job, but it may not provide full protection against someone who is truly determined to get in.

As for other choices, the Rockwell Charlotte and the newly-added Rockwell Modena were included thanks to their elegant styling. Both are available in various finishes, including a relatively plain brushed nickel choice for those who like the look, but who don't need a flashy color, like polished brass. The Modena takes the place of the Gordon Glass Co. Kit, which offers installation difficulties thanks to a lack of clear instructions.

If you'd rather something with low-profile styling, the Slide-Co Black and the Prime-Line Products C 1113 still make the cut. These don't protrude too much, so unlike some, they aren't likely to catch on your clothing or other items.

Because we know that styles and preferences differ, we’ve here kept a wide range of sliding glass door handles to meet various needs. Top choices still include models from Rockwell, Prime-Line Products, and Slide-Co. We particularly like the Rockwell Charlotte thanks to simple but handsome styling as well as the fact that it’s offered in many attractive finishes. It offers a latch but no key lock; if you’re looking for the latter feature, you might consider the similar Rockwell Sonoma. As for choices with a lower profile, we added the Prime-Line Products C 1113 and Slide-Co Black. They don’t offer a particularly large grip, but they don’t attract attention and thus won’t draw focus from your stylish area rugs, light fixtures, furniture, and more.

Autoslide Starter Kit In this day and age, why should you have to use a door handle at all? With the Autoslide Starter Kit, you don’t. Once installed, it enables you to open your sliding door with the push of a button. Then, the door closes on its own after a time delay that you program to suit your needs. autoslide.us
