This wiki has been updated 34 times since it was first published in April of 2016. It's so annoying when your bed sheets wrinkle up and come off the mattress, creating uncomfortable and unsightly bulges and ripples in the bed? These suspenders take care of that problem simply, quickly, and affordably, providing a delightfully smooth surface on which to get the perfect night's sleep. As a bonus, many help you control other textiles, from mattress pads to tablecloths. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
January 02, 2020:
We've kept a variety of options at this time, from simple to more complex, including The Original Bed Band. The heavy-duty cord is easy to adjust, and it even comes in several colors for those who'd like everything to match. The RayTour 3-Way was added, too, thanks to its effective triangle construction that doesn't require you to completely flip or lift your mattress. If you don't mind doing so, and want the security that longer straps can provide, we still think the Hold'Em Crisscross or EZNovation Clip'n'Sleep are good choices. The latter has two clips on each end to the former's one, but it's also pricier. Finally, we removed the SheetLock Fastener Set, as it wasn't as effective with most bed sheets. For something a little different, we instead selected the Bed Scrunchie 360 Degree, a fairly complex sheet gripping system that will pull your fitted sheet taut and turn a flat sheet into a fitted sheet.

Added the Hold'Em Crisscross suspenders as a simple, no-frills choice. Investigated claims that the Black Duck G20142 break easily and ultimately decided to remove them due to substandard construction.

QuickZip Percale Zip Sheet Starter Pack If you are well and truly tired of your sheets bunching, you might consider the QuickZip Percale Zip Sheet Starter Pack. The fitted sheet boasts a zipper that secures it to the mattress, which means that no matter how much you toss and turn, it's not going anywhere. The long-staple cotton feels good against the skin, too. quickzipsheet.com
Comfy-Snug Drawstring The Comfy-Snug Drawstring doesn't require you to add any straps or elastic pieces to your sheets. Instead, it has an integrated drawstring system that you tighten for a reliable hold that lasts night after night. There aren't many colors to choose from, though. indiegogo.com
The Importance Of A Good Night’s Rest
The problem here is that all those teachers in health class were right.
We are all told from a pretty young age about how important it is to get a good night's sleep. Yet, the vast majority of us fail to heed that advice. Many of us stay up too late, knowing that we have to get up early, often as a way of putting off the hassles of the day to come. After all, the prospect of dragging yourself out of bed early in the morning just to sit in traffic on the way to a rather boring office job isn’t something you can’t wait to indulge.
The problem here is that all those teachers in health class were right. Getting a good amount of sleep has an incredible amount of positive benefits associated with it. Chief among those benefits is its effect on your mood. A good night's sleep has the ability to balance out the chemicals in the brain that can otherwise contribute to stress and anxiety when they are out of whack. And when feeling rested allots you the energy to tackle your daily tasks, that sense of accomplishment will stimulate the reward centers in your brain, furthering those good vibes.
Getting a good night's sleep can also go a long way toward helping you achieve your fitness goals, as well. Several studies have shown that sufficient sleep can accelerate fat loss in individuals with reasonable diets and at least a minimum amount of weekly exercise. It may sound counterintuitive to think that you can burn more calories by sleeping longer, but that extra sleep vastly reduces the amount of cortisol in your system. That’s the stress hormone, and when your body is stressed it loves to store fat as a kind of emergency rationing system. In short, more sleep equates to less stress, which reduces fat storage and gives you the daily energy to burn the belly you may already have.
Of course, you could stay in bed for 12 hours, but if the quality of your sleep is poor, and you find yourself tossing and turning for the majority of that time, you might not see any of these benefits. One way to help ensure that you get a comfortable night’s sleep is by using a set of sheets suspenders.
How Sheet Suspenders Work
At one point or another, we’ve all had that miserable experience of flipping over during the night and having our fitted sheet snap back at us like a primed rat trap. Unless you were willing to get up and refit the sheet to the mattress, you probably spent the rest of your evening with at least one part of your body in direct contact with the mattress’s rather rough surface. That feeling, combined with the frustration of the situation to begin with, can put a pretty big damper on your rest.
At one point or another, we’ve all had that miserable experience of flipping over during the night and having our fitted sheet snap back at us like a primed rat trap.
On the flipside of this experience, you may have had a night where your fitted sheet was actually a little too large for your mattress, and all that extra fabric caused your fingers, elbows, knees, and toes, to snag on its protruding wrinkles.
Sheet suspenders simply and effectively solve this problem. There essentially little more than a large elastic X with little clips at the end of each line. When you fit your fitted sheet around your mattress, you simply click each corner to one of the suspenders’ fasteners, which will pull the fitted sheet taut across your mattress.
By securing your fitted sheet with a set of sheets suspenders, you’ll see two specific benefits. First, your fitted sheet won’t be able to move enough in the night that it could snap free of the mattress’s corners. That way, you won’t have to worry about finding yourself sleeping on a rough surface in the middle of the night. This will also help protect the long-term health of your mattress, as it won’t unnecessarily encounter as much sweat or as many dead skin cells as it otherwise would.
The second benefit to your comfort as a result of using sheet suspenders is that the sheet itself will be completely taut and flat, and this smooth feeling will help keep you comfortable as you lay down to sleep and maintain your comfort level throughout the night, allowing you to sleep more deeply and get more sufficient rest.
Other Ways To Maximize Your Sleep
In addition to a set of sheet suspenders, there are a few other purchases you can make and practices you can keep that will help maximize your night’s sleep. Some of these you may have heard of before, but hadn’t thought to heed until now that you’ve decided to make an investment in the quality of your rest.
In addition to a set of sheet suspenders, there are a few other purchases you can make and practices you can keep that will help maximize your night’s sleep.
For starters, and this may come as no surprise, but you should definitely store your electronic devices at least a half hour before laying down to sleep. It’s become rather widely known that the harsh blue glow of smart phones, tablets, laptops, tricks the brain into thinking there is still daylight, making it harder for it to produce the necessary chemicals associated with going to sleep. You can even go the extra mile and completely prohibit the use of those devices in the bedroom. You’ll probably need to invest in an alarm clock, but waking up without immediately reaching for your phone will have significant benefits to your mood at the start of the day.
If you’re someone that has a tough time sleeping in silence, there are sound machines specifically designed to provide you with a little extra ambience. Many of these offer programs designed to help you sleep, and some even integrate alarm systems that will wake you up more gently than that harsh buzzer. And if waking up is particularly hard for you, perhaps because your job forces you to rise before the sun, a wake-up light can come to your rescue. These nifty devices create a gradual flood of daylight-balanced brightness in your room, telling your brain that it’s time to start the day.
