The 10 Best Rotary Cutters
This wiki has been updated 27 times since it was first published in February of 2018. When you need precise, crisp cuts without the jagged edges that scissors can produce, you're going to want a rotary cutter in your quilting or crafts toolbox. Razor sharp and designed to make all kinds of slicing easy and fast, the models listed here can handle multiple layers of fabric or paper. Keep in mind that even with their safety features, they can still be hazardous if used carelessly. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
October 24, 2019:
When it comes to the top rotary cutters, experienced crafters and quilters will not be surprised to see Olfa and Fiskars come out on top, as these companies have long been known for their top-notch cutting tools. For most users, we like the Olfa Deluxe Handle and Olfa Splash; the latter doesn't have the "luxury" handle features, which is either good or bad depending upon your personal preference. We kept the Fiskars Comfort Loop, as well, even though it has occasional issues with unwanted retraction. The handle style makes it worth any intermittent aggravation for many. But we removed the Lyfstyle Quality Products Ultra and Rorabacks Premium over availability issues.
As for new additions, we selected an electric model, the Hercules AS100-K, as well as one designed specifically for making circles, the Olfa Circle Cutter. We also thought to include an introductory kit for those who are just starting out, the WA Portman Set. It includes a rotary cutting mat along with the cutter and replacement blades, making it a good value. But don't be surprised to find that if you stick with it, you want to replace these with Olfa models eventually.
