The 9 Best Projector Mounts
This wiki has been updated 22 times since it was first published in August of 2019. Projectors are far more economical than big-screen TVs and can create screens much larger than any LCD panel currently on the market. One of the keys to a streamlined experience is a good mount, and they come in compact, extendable, and even motorized versions. Whether you're installing it on a wall or ceiling in a home or workplace, one of these models should fulfill your needs. Editor's Notes
January 29, 2021:
A good mount is important not just for the safety of your projector, but also to ensure that you get the best possible image quality, and don't have to deal with bulky electronics taking up space in the middle of your home theater, or on your entertainment center. We like the QualGear PRB-717 particularly, for its low price and articulating hinges, so if your projector doesn't quite have the built-in versatility to aim the image just right, this mount can help. The Peerless AV Precision is just a touch more durable and, well, precise, but it's also considerably more expensive. If you're looking for something to mount near the screen and hold your short throw projector, consider the Viri PWM30B.

Projector mounts are designed for either ceiling or wall use. The ceiling mounts generally have articulating arms such as those by Vivo and QualGear, who both offer a variety of configurations. Vivo, in particular, makes some extremely cost-effective options that are great for a budget-friendly home theater. The QualGear family is a worthwhile consideration in part because of the range of ceiling types it's compatible with. But if you're focused on home theater design and want to ensure your cinematic experience is top-notch, check out the Peerless AV Precision Gear. It's one of the most durable and is suitable even for the extremely heavy and high-contrast laser projectors from manufacturers like Sony and Epson.
Another type of ceiling mount works well with drop or recessed ceilings. For example, if you're willing to cut a hole in your ceiling, the Home and Garden model can add a level of streamlining that costs far less than similar units typically found in costly business or high-end setups. The Amer Drop-In is a bit easier, as it can be simply be swapped into the place of the average drop ceiling's 2-foot-square panel.
Some wall mounts are similar, such as the Viewtech Universal and Elitech EW4BX; their main arm is simply at a 90-degree angle to the one on a ceiling mount. Others, like the Elitech EW1BC are little more than high-strength shelves designed to hold an electronic device in place. Whichever mount you choose, make sure you have a high-quality projection screen.

Monoprice Stealth If you're willing to drop nearly $1,000 on a projector mount, you want it to be extremely functional, and that's where the Monoprice Stealth shines. It's fully motorized and designed to hide away inside a drop ceiling until the moment it's needed, at which point you simply press a button on the remote and it lowers the projector into a suitable location. It's mostly designed for commercial spaces where this kind of streamlined performance is important. monoprice.com
