This wiki has been updated 27 times since it was first published in February of 2018. We've all made the mistake of heading for the great outdoors, setting out on a long car ride, or planning a day on a boat without considering this important question: Where will people go to the bathroom? Some of these portable toilets can (almost) make it seem like you're back at home on your porcelain throne. They're designed for easy transport and effortless waste removal to minimize messes. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

February 01, 2021:

Though doing your business is an important and necessary part of the day, the things we do it on when camping or otherwise spending time in the outdoors isn't seeing a lot of innovation. That being said, it really doesn't need to, considering that if it is sturdy enough to sit and provides a reasonable level or comfort, that is all you need. Since all of our previous recommendations are still proving to be reliable, we didn't have to replace any of them for having issues. In fact, the only change we made during this update was to eliminate the Palm Springs Outdoor BM300 due to availability concerns and replacing it with the PYFK Porta Camp, which we appreciate for its ability to fold up for travel, if not for its short height that can make it difficult to get up from.

We all know that people can be particular about how they do their business, and that doesn't change once they hit the great outdoors. So we made sure our portable potties cater to the preferences and needs of all those who must eliminate waste while camping, RVing, and more. Adventurers who are okay with everything but their loo being rugged will like the Porta Potti Thetford Corp, the Dometic 2.6, and the Sanitation Equipment Visa Potty, all of which boast powerful flushers and comfortable seats.

There's no need to put your roll of toilet paper over a nearby branch and allow bugs to crawl all over it when you have the Playberg Basicwise, as it has a tissue holder. The Porta Potti Thetford Corp stands out again for this same feature.

For those who want to keep things simple, there is the Reliance Products Hassock, which is essentially a bucket with a contoured seat that you can attach waste bags to the inside of. The Stansport 273-100 is also rather basic in design, but it does have a lid if you prefer a bit more discretion.

As for those who want total privacy when nature calls, there is the Cleanwaste Go Anywhere. It comes complete with a tent and potty, all of which pack down to fit nicely into the included backpack.
