Editor's Notes

December 08, 2020:

We've removed the unavailable Numbers, Letters 'n Fun, and replaced it with the Drizzy Playset. Though this option may not help children learn about numbers and letters, it's a fun choice that can make non-edible frozen treats and comes with many topping molds to add to your mushy desserts. It can take a bit of force to push down on the ice cream maker, so younger kids may have a hard time operating it. The way the Play-Doh comes out of the "machine" is very satisfying and makes pleasant-looking swirls.

The Fun Factory Mega Set was also unavailable, and so we decided to add the Wheels Tow Truck. Though it doesn't have as many tools as the Mega Set, this new selection is worth mentioning due to the fact that many kids enjoy playing with cars and Play-Doh. Little ones can create their own customizable cars and can use the two included molds that make a police car or a race car, and are easy to clean. It also comes with a tow truck that can drag their creations around.

The Play 'n Store Table is worthy of remaining due to its work table that's easy to assemble and has a wide variety of molds. It also comes with many color options and has a storage compartment for easy cleanup. The Play Date Party is another quality selection that's great for when you have a few kids playing together since it includes more than 40 tools.

Play-Doh has been a tried and true children's toy for decades, and with its nontoxic formulation, malleability, and the possibilities for endless creations, it's not hard to see why. Just like with kinetic sand sets, Play-Doh allows youngsters to get their hands dirty and enjoy sensory play that's critical to cognitive skill development.

While it's designed to be safe and won't harm your kids if they accidentally ingest some (and it tastes bad enough that they likely won't try to eat it again), it's still best to always supervise children during playtime and keep doh away from pets, who actually can get sick from eating it due to its high salt content. When using sets that create pretend food, be sure to explain to your child that it is not to be eaten or fed to animals.

There are sets on this list to cater to kids of all stripes. Those who are budding bakers and chefs should appreciate the Kitchen Creations Pizza Party, Sizzlin' Stovetop, and the Sweet Shoppe Cookie Creations. Little ones who like to work with numbers and letters might enjoy the Numbers, Letters 'n Fun. My Little Pony fans will like playing with the My Little Pony Make 'n Style, where you can recreate your favorite characters such as Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. If your child can't decide on which set they like best, the safest choice would be the 36-Pack Case, which comes with a wide variety of colors that can help them dive into the molding world of Play-Doh.

Joining the ranks today is the Play Date Party, an inclusive kit that's ideal for keeping children busy during play dates and slumber parties. It comes with everything a group needs to work together on various themes and has enough tools to go around. And if you're looking for more options for multiple children, you'll want to consider the Fun Factory Mega Set as well.
