This wiki has been updated 25 times since it was first published in August of 2019. In a perfect world, the inside of your oven would always heat to exactly the temperature on the dial. Unfortunately, such accuracy is not guaranteed, which is why you may need one of these handy oven thermometers. They’ll take some of the guesswork out of cooking, saving you time and hassle in the long run. To accommodate all chefs, we've included simple analog models as well as digital units. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

August 20, 2019:

For those who need to know the ambient temperature inside their ovens, we have added simple models that give you this information at a glance. These include the Winco 3-Inch and the Rubbermaid Instant Read, both of which are NSF certified and can be used in commercial environments. The former has markings for both Celsius and Fahrenheit, while the latter does not. There’s also the Admetior Kitchen, a super-simple unit that is on the smaller side. For cooks who would like more functionality, we’ve selected a few digital units that work as meat thermometers in addition to measuring the temperature inside a grill or oven. These include the futuristic Meater+ Long Range. It boasts a completely wireless probe and handy smartphone app, but the connectivity can be spotty. Also, if you want to use it with Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth, you’ll need to set up Meater Link, which requires two smart devices, one acting as a bridge.

Special Honors

ThermoWorks Signals It’s not exactly inexpensive, but the ThermoWorks Signals has built-in Bluetooth and W-Fi and not one, not two, not three, but four probes. It even comes in various colors in case you want it to match your kitchen or grilling area. thermoworks.com

FireBoard Thermometer We aren’t saying you should, but if you wanted to, you could use the FireBoard Thermometer’s Wi-Fi connectivity to check on your meal from anywhere, such as your office or the gym. It arrives with two meat probes as well as one for checking ambient temperatures. fireboard.com
