Editor's Notes
July 16, 2019:
Whether they're elevated, flat, or filled with padding to support an aging canine on the patio, these outdoor dog beds offer an eclectic mix of styles that will appeal to almost any breed, big or small. While a majority of the items don't showcase multiple layers of memory foam like some of their indoor counterparts, many of them do offer raised designs and mesh coverings that allow for plenty of airflow underneath your pooch as well as durable frames and coverings that stand up to harsh sunlight and persistent chewers.
For example, the K&H Original Pet Cot is one of those elevated models with a breathable mesh center, that helps to wick away moisture, and slip-resistant rubber feet for stability on most outdoor surfaces. I added the Lightspeed Travel due to its inner foam core for extra support as well as its inflatable/deflatable design, making it easy to roll up when not in use. Both the Refined Canine Chaise Lounger and Superjare Pet Cot offer canopies to protect Fido from the hot sun, the former of which has a thick, machine-washable cushion for supporting large breeds while the latter includes a convenient carrying bag. The curved back section of the Gen7Pets Trailblazer is ideal for pups with nesting instincts. One of my standard poodles, for example, sometimes prefers to roll herself up into a little ball when she takes a snooze, so the Trailblazer will provide ample support for this kind of sleeping position. Of course, I should note that when my particular dog jumps onto my bedroom mattress at night, all bets are off as to her chosen sleeping position, since she usually prefers to stretch out as much as possible and lie on her back to monopolize the space, knowing full well that it's not her designated outdoor spot to rest. Although the Dogbed4less Orthopedic is simple in design, the high-density cooling memory foam makes it a great option for older pets who suffer from arthritis. I also added the K9 Ballistics Elevated for its aluminum frame and tear-resistant nylon fabric. The Majestic Pet Navajo might first appear to be suitable for bedroom rugs and hardwood floors only, but its polyester slipcover is designed for extended outdoor use. Finally, the Pet Craft Snoozer may be on the bulky side, but it still sets itself apart from the competition with its UV-treated exterior and extra-tall padded sidewalls.
