video play icon

This wiki has been updated 28 times since it was first published in November of 2018. Your work doesn't stop just because it's cold outside. Fortunately, with one of these natural gas heaters, your garage or shop will be as inviting as your living room. They can either be freestanding or mounted to a wall — and some can even attach to the ceiling. Be sure to give yourself plenty of venting, however, and if you're not sure about how to set it up, hire a professional. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

February 10, 2021:

It was a fairly straightforward round of updates that only required a few changes. We eliminated the Dyna-Glo BFSS30NGT-2N – which was suffering from some availability issues, and bore such a resemblance to the Dyna-Glo GBF30DTDG-2 that it almost felt like a redundant selection – and removed the Sure Heat Blue Flame Dual, noting that, while it cost considerably more than comparable models, it didn’t appear to offer any exceptional features. We also juggled the order of our list quite a lot, in order to ensure that the top end of these rankings comprised large-output options that can handle heating large workshops, as well as standard-sized garages.

Our new additions this time around were the Bluegrass Living Vent Free — which we thought had a more attractive design than many models in this category, and is available in 10,000-, 20,000- and 30,000-BTU sizes; and the Dyna-Glo RMC-FA150NGDGD, a portable model that can pump out an impressive 150,000 BTU, which makes it able to heat spaces as big as 3,800 square feet.

November 12, 2018:

Heating power was a primary consideration in ranking items, which is why both the Modine Hot Dawg and Mr. Heater Big Maxx warranted inclusion. However, the number of BTUs were far from the only factor, as simplicity of installation, ease of use, and existence of safety features all played heavily in the ranking decisions.

8. Dyna-Glo BF30NMDG

9. Dyna-Glo RMC-FA150NGDGD
