The 10 Best Men's Merino Wool Long Underwear
This wiki has been updated 33 times since it was first published in February of 2017. The advantages of Merino wool include powerful moisture-wicking properties, elasticity, odor control, and longevity. It is noticeably different from other wool because of the extra-fine fibers that make it particularly pleasant against the skin, while remaining durable. All of these qualities mean the fabric is well-suited for cold climate garments, and especially for long underwear. Editor's Notes
September 26, 2020:
Comfort, style, and durability were our top priorities in selecting our men's merino wool long underwear. We also aimed to include a good mix of lightweight, medium weight, and heavy choices for a range of climates, along with both separates, and sets.
The WoolX X705 caught our attention because they have ankle cuffs that make them easy to slide beneath ski pants or jeans and dry quickly after washing. Unfortunately, the WoolX Explorer LS Top does poorly in the wash, developing pills and holes quickly, so we removed it during this update. The Jockey 8530 earned a place thanks to their strategically-placed seams throughout the thighs and rear that improve flexibility.
We also add the Minus33 Kancamagus and the Meriwool Base Layer, both of which come in several colors ranging from muted to bright. The Sportown Full-Length have a dated look and fit, so we took those off the list during this update. We appreciated the tailored look of the Meriwool Thermal Shirt and the Minus33 Ticonderoga, both of which work equally well as an outer layer.
Wanting to provide a full outfit for those seeking extra warmth from their neck down to their feet, we added the Lapasa M31 Set. Those needing something on the thicker side for seriously cold climates might like the WoolX X705.
