The 10 Best Locking Carabiners
This wiki has been updated 25 times since it was first published in February of 2019. A locking carabiner is one of those small, but very handy, devices, as it can do everything from keeping climbers safe to holding a water bottle. You'll need to ensure that the one you choose can take the type of abuse you'll throw at it, because not all are created equal. We've included a variety here, including those that work for corralling keys, hanging hammocks, and, yes, even mountaineering. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
February 11, 2019:
Because we understand just how crucial safe equipment is to climbing, we selected models that are specifically approved for this activity, including the Petzl Attache, Black Diamond Magnetron VaporLock, and DMM Rhino. The Magnetron in particular has a distinctive auto-lock, but some users find it tough to operate with gloves on, so although it's excellent it may not be excellent in every circumstance. We also know that, sometimes, you just want to clip your water bottle to something, so we also chose a few lighter duty (and less expensive) models, such as the Paliston Hiking Clips and Favofit Heavy Duty. You don't want to trust the weight of your body to these, but if you're just looking for a better way to keep track of your keys, say, they're probably fine.
