Editor's Notes
May 14, 2020:
For classrooms, workplaces, and home offices, we've kept several types of letter sorters to make mail and document organization a breeze. But we've removed the Kusn Supply 3 Tier, which has become tough to find. If you like the standard tiered look, you might consider instead the Vanra Desktop Caddy, the Rubbermaid Regeneration, or the Seville Classics. Of the three, the Seville model is the most robust, but it's also the heaviest at over 10 pounds, so it is the least mobile of the bunch. Of course, that robustness translates to strength; the former two can't hold as much weight, so don't plan on roughing them up too much. If you don't mind cardboard, there's the Bankers Box Decorative. It offers eight slots and a flat top that's fine for holding a few letters — but it's probably not strong enough for anything larger, like your heavy-duty stapler or day planner.
All of the aforementioned options have fairly straightforward styling. You can jazz up your desk a bit with the MobileVision 5-Slot or the Swingline Stratus, bamboo and clear acrylic models, respectively. The former holds more than the latter, but the latter is fine for tiny workspaces that can't accommodate full-sized options. Or, if you're truly crunched for desk space, consider the SimpleHouseware 6 Tier. You can mount it on the wall, so it won't gobble up any precious real estate.

The McGarvey Workshop Wide It doesn't offer a ton of slots, but what The McGarvey Workshop Wide lacks in organizational features, it more than makes up for in style. You can have your name or a short saying added, and there are several handsome finishes to select from, including espresso, distressed white, and weathered gray. etsy.com
Fellowes Literature Organizer 72-Compartment The Fellowes Literature Organizer 72-Compartment is quite big at nearly 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide, so you'll need a relatively large space to house it. This ample size allows each individual compartment to offer lots of room, so it will hold plenty, especially since it boasts a high-strength frame. fellowes.com
