The 10 Best Ladder Desks
This wiki has been updated 21 times since it was first published in May of 2020. Named for their resemblance to a step ladder, these ladder desks feature slanted or straight legs with a varying number of shelves supported by the frame. They all offer a working surface for a laptop or monitor and keyboard, and are ideal for use in bedrooms, living rooms, condos, or anywhere a regular desk won't fit. They can also be used to store books and display photos and ornaments. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
July 02, 2020:
Most people don't need a dedicated office, or indeed don't have the space to justify one. However, most people do appreciate the benefits of having a convenient workspace where they can use the computer, do the household accounting, or write letters and such forth. A ladder desk is a functional alternative to a regular desk as it takes up less space, and thanks to its bookshelf-like design, looks much better as an item of furniture.
When choosing a suitable ladder desk for your home the first consideration is where it will be placed, as this will dictate the size you need. If you have a whole wall to spare then you may consider one of the larger items such as the Tribesigns Workstation or the Mainstay Sumpter Park, both of which feature additional shelving either side of the desk, and can provide a useful place for extra work or study related material, as well as for displaying photos or ornaments. On the other hand, if space is limited, then the smallest options reviewed are the Monarch Specialties Tryy and the Suoani Student, the latter being more suitable for use in a bedroom where children can do their homework.
When it comes to styling there are plenty of choices, too. Neither the Lokkhan Industrial nor the Nathan James Theo are slanted, but rather run parallel to the wall and combine metal framing and wooden shelves to achieve a modern contemporary look. The Martin Tools Mintra is constructed from solid hardwood and has very minimalist styling. Similarly, the MH London Desk boasts solid mango wood shelving on a black powder-coated frame with matching hardware that would fit in with most modern home designs.
