Editor's Notes
January 18, 2021:
Despite this being a category where there are many similar, if not identical models, we wanted to make sure to include some variety in our recommendations. For those who like things slim and sleek, there is the Amazon Fabric Cover, MoKo Origami, Ayotu K10, Fintie Slimshell, and Amazon Leather Cover. All of these are lightweight and won't add much thickness to your device. Of these, the MoKo Origami is our favorite and the one we find most useful, since it manages to incorporate a kickstand without adding any extra bulk or weight. It also comes in an interesting variety of styles, as does the Fintie Slimshell. The Twelve South BookBook stands out from the rest due to its resemblance to a traditional leather-bound tomb, while the Fintie Stand differentiates itself by the inclusion of a card pocket on its kickstand, though it is somewhat poorly placed for those who will be using their device in public.

For some people, the only thing better than having a lot of books at home is having a lot of books in their hand wherever they go. It's hard to believe that the Kindle is 12 years old this year. The first ones appeared for sale in 2007 and sold out in just over five hours. Many generations later, today's Kindles, including the Paperwhite, remain hot items.
They're not exactly cheap and it makes sense to protect them, especially if you use yours away from home. It can be damaged when you throw it in a bag or if you drop it, and you can protect your investment with one of these covers relatively inexpensively. A cover might also help conserve battery power because most of them put your device to sleep when you close the cover. You'll want to make sure the cover you choose fits your particular Kindle model.
In this update, we chose items based on quality, effectiveness, and value, favoring items that have an outstanding reputation among users. Added the All New Fabric Cover as an option for the latest (10th generation) Paperwhite. It has a water-repelling cover that should help protect your device against spills and splashes.
