Editor's Notes
July 29, 2019:
While a true tent provides sufficient shelter from the rain and elements on a camping trip, the main purpose of a kid's tent is to provide youngsters with a space that feels like their own private hide-out, but can still be easily monitored by parents.
Durability is key, because so many kids will inevitably wrestle and roughhouse at some point in the day, but we didn't exclude some of the simpler pop-up versions out there that aren't ideal for outdoors because many parents want a kids tent for the indoors as a place to play for the long winter months without having to sacrifice all their blankets to constructing a fort.
We decided to include options like the Sue Sports Princess Castle and the Sunny Days Thomas & Friends even though kids might grow out of their princess or Thomas phase in a year or two, they will provide countless hours of precious entertainment for the duration of the phase.
The Pacific Play Tents Super Duper did take the top spot for appealing to any age or gender and being durable enough to last many years. It's a superior choice for outdoor play because the front door opens wide enough to allow plenty of ventilation on hot summer days.
