The 10 Best Kickstand Pads
This wiki has been updated 21 times since it was first published in April of 2020. One thing all motorcycles have in common is that they’re heavy. Even a small motor scooter is surprisingly unwieldy once it loses its center of balance, so a sure footing is essential when parked. Kickstand pads help ensure a stand won’t sink into hot asphalt, sandy soil, saturated earth, or any surface that isn't entirely solid, possibly preventing expensive damage as the result of a fall. Editor's Notes
May 17, 2020:
Motorcycles must be properly balanced whether they are stationary or in motion, and most have the choice of a center stand or a side stand to support parked vehicles. One issue often faced by motorcyclists is that the footprint of the stand is rather small and this can create an imbalance on uneven surfaces, or cause the stand to sink into soft terrain, melted asphalt, or fine gravel.
Kickstand pads offer a simple solution to this potentially expensive problem, as bikes are heavy and even a fall from a stationary position can cause serious damage to a bike’s faring, accessories, mechanics, or frame. By enlarging the stand’s footprint, they create a firm footing that will maintain the correct parking balance of the bike. They also prevent scratches on fine floorings, such as linoleum or ceramic tiles, and they are available in a range of different styles.
Some, such as the Badass Moto Gear Coaster, Holoras Universal, and the Aquacapsule Durable are coaster-style and slip under the stand while parked and feature a lip into which its foot will rest. These often have a textured or grooved base to increase friction so that the pad does not slip.
Others, such as the AnXin for R1200GS, Cobike Z-Series, and the AnXin for CRF1000L, are custom pads for specific popular brands and models and are designed to be permanent fixtures to your bike. The Nawenson Universal is also designed to be permanently attached but is adaptable for use with a number of different stands.
