The 7 Best Ion Speakers

The ION Block Rocker (about $149) is a rolling party speaker built for backyards, pool decks and karaoke nights. ION rates it at 120 watts peak through four drivers: an 8-inch woofer, a 2-inch tweeter and two 4-inch midrange drivers. The maker claims up to 35 hours per charge at moderate volume, and a wired microphone with a 7.5-foot cable comes in the box. It adds FM radio with presets set through ION's app, USB playback, an aux input and an IPX5 rating against rain and splashes, and two of them can link for stereo. It weighs about 20.5 pounds, so the wheels and trolley handle earn their keep. ION's warranty covers only 90 days, and we found no independent lab test of this model.

The ION Block Rocker XL (about $229) is a bigger, louder take on the rolling party box, rated at 220 watts peak through five drivers, including an 8-inch woofer and two 1-inch tweeters. Its headline number is battery life: ION claims up to 90 hours at moderate volume, though lights and loud playback cut that sharply. A row of touch pads fires 40 sound effects and can record your own, and separate 1/4-inch jacks take a microphone and a guitar or keyboard. A wired mic with an 8-foot cable is included. It's rated IPX5, rolls on wheels and stands about 19 inches tall. ION doesn't publish its weight, it's pricey, and we found no lab review of it.

The ION Sport 320 (about $199) is ION's all-weather rolling speaker, aimed at campsites, ball fields and job sites. Five drivers, including an 8-inch woofer and two angled side drivers, spread sound across 320 degrees, and ION rates it at 200 watts peak. The maker claims up to 100 hours per charge, and a covered compartment holds the USB port. It's rated IPX5, has FM radio with 16 presets and an adjustable equalizer, and hides a bottle opener in the body. ION's spec pages show it is the same hardware sold as the Pathfinder 320, which RTINGS reviewed in its lab and described as loud and consistent from different angles. At about 22.7 pounds it's heavy, and it uses older Bluetooth 5.0.

The ION Tailgater Boom (about $89) is a carry-handle boombox for tailgates, beach days and small gatherings. A 5.25-inch woofer and a 2-inch tweeter are rated at 60 watts peak, and ION claims up to 15 hours per charge. It charges over USB-C, and its USB port can top up a phone. You also get FM radio with presets set in the app, USB playback, a 1/4-inch microphone jack and IPX5 splash resistance, and two can pair for stereo. At about 12 inches wide and tall, it fits on a car floor or a picnic table. The microphone jack comes without a microphone, there are no wheels, and independent coverage is limited to a blog review and retailer feedback.

The ION Tailgater Tough (about $63) is a compact boombox armored for rough use, with rubber corner guards, a honeycomb grille and metal tie-down points for strapping it to a truck bed, cart or boat. A 6.5-inch woofer and a 2-inch tweeter are rated at 65 watts peak. It weighs about 7.1 pounds, is rated IPX5, charges over USB-C and can charge a phone from its USB-A port. A 1/4-inch input with its own gain knob takes a microphone or an instrument, and it has FM radio and stereo pairing. RTINGS has lab-tested it, and its comparison found more balanced sound and lower Bluetooth lag than a larger ION wheeled speaker. ION claims only about 10 hours per charge, and the bass is modest.

The ION Total PA Live (about $109) is a plug-in PA speaker for DJ sets, church halls, parties and small bands. A 15-inch woofer and a 1-inch tweeter run on separate amplifiers, and ION rates the system at 500 watts peak. A small mixer takes XLR microphones, with echo for vocals plus separate bass and treble knobs, and it plays from Bluetooth 5.0, USB drives, SD cards and FM radio. An LED ring around the woofer pulses with the music, and a second unit can link wirelessly for stereo. ION lists a microphone and a mic stand in the box, and the cabinet rolls on wheels. ION mentions no battery, so plan on a wall outlet. It publishes no size or weight, and a few owners report Bluetooth that won't reconnect.

The ION Magnet Rocker (about $24) comes as a pair of palm-size speakers, each about 3.9 inches square, that can play together in stereo. Each one has a 2-inch driver and a passive bass radiator, a built-in magnet that grips a fridge, toolbox or truck door, and a carabiner for a backpack strap. The listing claims 12 hours per charge, IPX5 resistance to rain and splashes, and Bluetooth 5.3. They're a cheap way to put music in a garage, kitchen or campsite, or to split left and right channels across a room. Don't expect party volume from two small drivers. ION doesn't list this model on its own website, and owner feedback is still thin.
