The 10 Best Horn Speakers
This wiki has been updated 24 times since it was first published in November of 2018. Whether you work in a busy warehouse, a crowded high school, or a ship on the ocean, it's often important that your voice be heard. When installing a public address or paging system, the right horn speaker ensures that both run-of-the-mill, as well as emergency, announcements come through clearly. In fact, some of these powerful units even sound good enough to play music. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
January 20, 2021:
Primarily used in outdoor locations, horn speakers typically project the sound source for PA systems and VHF radios, whether that be music, alarm signals, or the human voice. As their frequency ranges are nowhere near as dynamic as those of speaker cabinets, they are most useful for public announcement purposes, and in road-going and water-borne vehicles.
Of the two that we have selected for our latest update, the Standard Horizon 220SW is intended for use on watercraft, in conjunction with a VHF radio. As these are usually capped at 25 watts of output, this 30-watt unit has plenty of headroom and is ideally suited for signaling and hailing purposes.
If you are looking to amplify music through your speaker, then the Pyle PHSP12 is an affordable yet high-quality option. Its 12.7-inch horn has a sturdy aluminum housing and projects well at sound pressure levels of up to 103 decibels. It can be mounted in situ without concern of structural degradation over time, and should provide many years of effective operation.

If you're going mostly for simple, everyday voice announcements in your school or business, Pyle and Monoprice put out some great, mid-range options. Busy, professional offices may benefit from Algo's in-depth control systems and high-fidelity speakers, though. The Pro Trucker model is, of course, great for truckers, but the Pyle All-Weather does nearly as good a job there. Bogen has been in schools for a while, as well, while the Standard Horizon is a favorite among sailors.
