Whether you are worried about your ability to pass a drug test and want to do some preliminary screening at home, run a business and need to periodically test employees, or are a suspicious parent who suspects your child may be experimenting, one of the kits on this list might be the solution. They check urine for traces of various illegal substances and provide results within minutes. Editor's Notes

August 01, 2020:

While there are many important things to consider when selecting a home drug test, few are as vital as accuracy. If you can't rely on the test to give accurate results, then there is really no point in using it. Other considerations we looked at were how easy they were to use and understand the results, as well as the sensitivity levels, drugs tested for, and features that helped ensure the validity of the sample.

One thing that may immediately become apparent to a reader of our list is the absence of hair follicle tests. As much as we wanted to include one to provide more than one kind of testing option, we just didn't feel comfortable doing so because we couldn't find any that seemed to offer consistent and reliable results. In addition to inconsistent results, they technically can't be considered true at home tests since you have to send the specimen to a lab for processing, which comes at an additional cost. Because of these reasons we decided to remove the Psychemedics PDT90 and HairConfirm Follicle from our recommendations.

If you need to screen for as many drugs as possible, the Areta ACDOA-1144 will be your best option because it can detect 14 chemical substances, including Methadone and Buprenorphine. This means you will know if the test subject is currently taking a medication to help get them off of illegal drugs or lessen the withdrawal symptoms. Identify Diagnostics 12-Panel can also detect Buprenorphine, however it doesn't screen for tricyclic antidepressants like the Areta test does.

The Easy@Home ECDOA-7124, Care Check Multi Screen, and MiCare TDOA-6124A3 are also all good choices for testing for a range of drugs. They all can detect the presences of 12 substances ranging from cocaine and MDMA to barbiturates and opioids. They are also slightly more affordable than the Areta.

If hard drugs aren't a concern, you can save even more money by going for a single-panel test like Exploro THC or Care Check THC Panel, which simply look for evidence of marijuana use.

November 07, 2018:

While at-home tests aren't as trustworthy as those administered by labs, special attention was paid to options with higher accuracy rates, as either a false negative or positive can be devastating. Additionally, we focused on ease-of-use and safeguards against tampering.
