Editor's Notes
May 18, 2020:
In creating our list, we understood that it's common for those with gluten sensitivities to also have other food allergies, so we tried to gather products with diverse, but minimal ingredient lists, to suit many dietary needs. With that in mind, we appreciated that Banza Rigatoni is vegan-friendly and soy-free, and that Jovial Foods Farfalle is devoid of most common allergens. Though Tolerant Foods Organic is gentle on stomachs, it lacked flavor and had an odd texture, so it lost its place.
We also strived to add pastas with strong nutritional profiles, so we liked that Cybele's Free to Eat Superfood Purple Rotini helps you get your servings of veggies in, and that Ancient Harvest Red Lentil Rotini is made with nutrient-rich quinoa, along with its B vitamin-rich namesake ingredient. We removed Explore Cuisine Pulse because, even though it's also made with red lentil, we didn't feel it offered as many health benefits as Ancient Harvest Red Lentil Rotini.
Getting as many of the pasta shapes on the list as possible was a priority as well, so we like that the Tinkyada 3-Shape Variety Bundle includes elbows, penne, and spirals. We also made room for Garofalo Casarecce, as it is a pasta variety found in some truly authentic Italian recipes, though perhaps less common in America. Sam Mills D'Oro lost its spot because DeLallo Fusilli offers the same spiral shape, but with a much better texture.
