Editor's Notes
January 11, 2021:
As the world goes digital, it sometimes seems that physical letters are becoming a thing of the past, that is until you open up your mailbox and see that huge stack of junk mail. Perhaps due to this, the options for electric letter openers are becoming more and more scarce, and the category is essentially dominated by a single manufacturer, Martin Yale. Because of the lack of new devices on the market, our update was mostly about culling our recommendations of models that haven't proven the test of time — we are looking at you Panasonic Slide. We also had to remove the Mr. Lion Maul due to availability issues. What we were left with was mostly Martin Yale models, the Martin Yale 62001 and Martin Yale 1632, which are good for business use, and the Martin Yale 1624, which is good for home use. The Asuka Asmix LO80B and Plus Black 35-131 are also good, handheld, home-use models that are both very affordable.

Made sure to select a range of models for office and/or home settings. Included handheld options for small volume mail in addition to heavy-duty machines that are appropriate for businesses that receive thousands of letters on a daily basis. Also made a point of choosing products that come in at low, mid, and high price points to suit budgets of all sizes.
